About Personalized Telemedicine
The word personalized has to leave room for the person.
The title
Personalized Telemedicine is this site's editorial title. It is not a clinic or a telemedicine business. No treatment can be prescribed, obtained or arranged here, and there are no appointments to book. Published research is where I spend my attention here, especially when a result has to belong to a whole person. These essays are not medical advice.
The name has an appealing tension for me. A screen can make a person seem wonderfully close while leaving much of their life outside the frame. Personalized ought to ask for more of that life: the body involved, the history already there, the future being imagined. That is an ambition for the conversation, rather than a claim that this site can deliver personal care.
Why semaglutide
At the outset, I associated semaglutide chiefly with the scales. The rodent appetite experiments, SELECT cardiovascular result and longer observation in STEP 5 expanded the questions that interested me. Biology, history, duration: the same word, result, began to need more space.
My temperament is suspicious of tidy endings. I can admire an achievement and still be dissatisfied with the account surrounding it. In this case the admiration is real, and so is the dissatisfaction with a conversation that might stop at a weight target. The research offers enough substance for a much fuller discussion.
The limits here
A medical decision needs the circumstances of an actual person. Those circumstances are absent from an essay of mine. There is no individual assessment behind an essay, and no treatment instruction tucked into its conclusions.
My opinions concern the meaning and completeness of the account: which questions deserve space, which simplifications are costly, which findings deserve to stay together. The reading list is there for anyone who wants to spend time with the studies themselves. The contact page describes the status of correspondence and corrections.
